Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to some frequently asked questions about counselling and hypnotherapy with Creatively Dreaming Therapy in Horsham. If you'd like to know more about how sessions work, what to expect, or whether therapy could be right for you, these FAQs may help.
How do I know if I need counselling or hypnotherapy?
We can explore this together. Some people benefit most from talking therapy, whilst others find hypnotherapy useful for focused, specific work using the subconscious. Many clients can benefit from a combination of both. For example, hypnotherapy may support relaxation or a reduction in anxiety whilst counselling may support working through the underlying issues related to stress, nervousness or anxiety. I’ll explore the approaches that may support you, with you, tailoring it to your individual needs.
How do I book a session?
You can get in touch via my contact page, email me at: helen@creativelydreamingtherapy.co.uk or call me: 07554013158. I am happy to answer any questions via email, online or via the telephone. We can then arrange an initial session.
How many sessions will I need?
This is all dependent on how you feel and what you are hoping to work through. Sometimes people feel that a few sessions meet their needs, other times people wish to have more sessions or longer-term therapy to support them. We will check in regularly and discuss how you feel the sessions are going, discuss any changes you may feel might support you further and look at where you feel you are on your journey.
How long is a session?
• Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long.
• Hypnotherapy sessions are 60 minutes long to allow for the hypnosis process.
How often will we meet?
Sessions are usually weekly to begin with, though this can be adjusted to fortnightly based on your needs and availability. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the pace and rhythm of the work feels right for you.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes, everything we talk about is confidential and it is a safe space in which to share whatever you need to. I work in line with professional and ethical standards. There are a few exceptions which I can talk through with you during our first session together. One exception is if I have serious concerns about your safety or someone else’s safety, if this were the case, I would always try to speak to you first.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is where I will talk to you in more detail, including discussing what brings you to therapy now, your current circumstances, your support network, relationships, what your needs are and taking a detailed history. I will talk you through the contract details and how we may work together. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as we talk. Once we have talked things through and if you feel you would like to meet again and I feel I am able to support you, you are welcome to book in more sessions. You can read more about counselling sessions on my facebook page: Creatively Dreaming Therapy, with Helen Taylor.
What do I need to bring or prepare?
For in-person sessions there’s nothing you need to bring or prepare. Just come as you are. Sometimes when we’ve worked creatively or if there’s something you feel you want to share with me such as a journal page, collage etc then you may wish to bring these to a session. However, this is totally your choice. Other times I may ask you to bring something, such as a photo because this may support work in a session.
For online or telephone sessions, you will need to find a quiet, private space where you won’t be disturbed. Feel free to have a cuppa or a blanket if this helps you feel more comfortable.
For online hypnotherapy sessions you will also need a chair or something to lie back on whilst the hypnosis takes place. I advise that you also use headphones to support the process, where possible.
It’s always good to try out the online link for our sessions is working well before the session and to get settled ready for the session to start at least 5 minutes before.
Do you work with teenagers and young people?
Yes, I have many years of experience of working with children and young people. I work with children aged 11 years to 17 years and young people aged 18 to 25 years. My approach is calm, age appropriate and centred on building trust and safety.
Where are your in-person sessions held?
I offer in-person sessions from two locations in West Sussex:
• A private therapeutic space in Broadbridge Heath
• BodyWise Wellbeing Studios in Warnham
Venues provide a calm, supportive environment for therapy. We can talk through which location suits you best.
What if I need to cancel a session?
I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charges at the full session fee, except in exceptional circumstances.
How do I pay for sessions?
Payment details will be shared when we arrange the first session. I accept bank transfers and cash. Payment is due one week in advance of the session.
I’ve never had therapy before and I’m nervous, is that normal?
Yes, very normal. Starting therapy can feels like a big step, and it’s okay to feel unsure. My aim is to make the process as gentle and welcoming as possible. There’s no right or wrong way to begin, just come as you are.
